    Guidelines for Obtaining an Ohio Marriage License in Lucas County

    Ohio law states that Ohio residents must apply for a marriage license in the county in which at least one of the applicants lives in order to be married in the State of Ohio. Lucas County residents must provide proof of their residency in Lucas County.

    Out of state residents may apply in Lucas County for an Ohio marriage license, provided that the marriage ceremony also occurs in Lucas County. No waiting period in Lucas County is required. Therefore, the bride and groom may be married in Lucas County the same day they obtained their license.

    The marriage license will be valid for 60 days from the date it is issued. An ordained or licensed minister of any religious society within the state of Ohio who is licensed by the office of the Secretary of the State of Ohio, a judge of the county court, or a judge of a municipal court may solemnize marriages in Lucas County. Accommodations are provided for individuals wishing to be married in Lucas County who do not speak or understand English or who are hearing impaired.
